Artist Statement:

Songs, memories, and emotions are the things that inspire Jim Pirie as he creates his abstract work.  His use of bold strokes, big color and determined patterns leave his work open to interpretation by his audience while the careful structure allows for the knowledge that the disorder evolved from purpose.

At his home studio in his Shoreline, WA, Pirie experiments with colors and their contrasts as a statement of his creativity.  Lights and darks are used in an attempt to capture emotion, spirit, passion and energy - the very core of what makes us who we are.

Jim's style is expressive, colorful and provocative, utilizing all aspects of the abstract genre.  The beginning of each painting is often like a journey with no predetermined destination.  As colors and textures intermingle, the paints act as a guide for the artist; expressing an idea or representing a moment in time captured on canvas.  That sensual connection between the artist, the materials and the viewer is something Jim strives to preserve in each piece he creates.
